It's the stereo BBD chorus that turns a thin single-oscillator patch into a wide, shimmering pad, and DCO-106 models it closely. On top of that sit three reverb modes using Cherry's own algorithm and a full delay with tempo sync, so a patch can go straight into a track without reaching for extra plugins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eThe sound\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStable DCO pitch means everything stays tight and in tune, so the character comes from the filter and chorus rather than drifting oscillators. The flip side is that one oscillator per voice is a limit: if you want thick detuned supersaws or complex modulation, this isn't the tool. Brass stabs cut through a busy mix, pads are wide and warm, and with voices spread across the stereo field it sounds properly expensive. An eight-step mini sequencer, an extra LFO, mod delay and reverb round it off. Basses are thick and growly, leads scream, and the filters reward riding the cutoff in real time. Polyphony is a real bonus over the hardware, though PS-20 is at its best when it's being slightly nasty. If you want polite pads, look elsewhere. Cherry Audio has paired it with a model of a classic tape echo, which adds warmth, wobble and repeats without reaching for another plugin. The lead section gets a stronger arpeggiator and adjustable note priority, and the basic LFO becomes a proper multi-waveform, tempo-synced one.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eThe effects\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original's 14-stage phaser is modelled, and it's a big part of the sound. Cherry Audio adds chorus\/flanger, echo and reverb, each switchable per section, so strings can sit in reverb while the poly section phases and the lead has a slapback. A multi-out version gives dry outputs for each section alongside the stereo mix, as the hardware did.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eThe sound\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLush, swirling and very 70s. The strings and phaser together are worth the price alone, and layering all four sections gets you a whole arrangement under one hand. It's less suited to modern, tightly controlled sound design than a conventional poly, but for warm, moving ensemble textures it's just the ticket. It's less lush than the Jupiter-8 for big pads, but for driving electronic music that's a fair trade. It was the JP-6 behind the Ghostbusters bassline, and Orbital are long-time fans.
