80s Sample Pack - Espen Krafts Italo Disco

80s Sample Pack - Espen Krafts Italo Disco

It's been an honour to recently work with Espen Kraft on his Sample Pack release.

I've long been a fan of Espens YouTube content, as a child of the 80s his videos have always resonated with me.

Delving into Espens sample pack you'll find lots to discover, the style of the content is quintessentially 80s. Quite fitting for the man who calls himself the 80s - I say he's right.

In the pack the folders are each arranged by drum machine, with sub folders of individual shots from each machine, recording dry and in pristine condition. There's also construction kits for utilising content from each drum machine, bass, synth parts, midis and so forth skillfully put together to give you ready made loops to drop straight into your projects.

There's bonus content including more midi, Vox shots and other retro sample goodies such as processed drums.

The tempo is 120 BPM and I've got to say the quality is fantastic. It's authentic, it's 80s.

The hardware list is nothing short of staggering. Including;

  • Korg Poly-61
  • Korg DSS-1
  • Roland Alpha Juno 2
  • Roland Juno 6
  • Roland JX-8P
  • Roland R8
  • Roland TR-808
  • Roland TR-909
  • Roland S-10
  • Yamaha DX7
  • Behringer Model D
  • Sequential TOM drum machine w/EPROM binary Linndrum, DMX and Emulator chips.
  • E-MU Drumulator
  • Dr.Böhm "The German Linndrum" drum machine
  • Elka OMB-5 and Drumstar 80 drum machine
  • Simmons SDS800 drum machine/brain
  • BOSS DR-55
  • BOSS DR-110
  • Akai S1000
  • Akai S612
  • Akai S700
  • Casio SK-1
  • Kurzweil K2000

Espen recorded all the samples directly out of the drum machines itself, through the Audient ASP800 preamp, to the Audient ID22 and into Wavelab where they are edited. Some of the drums are recorded with SSL Superanalogue preamps. And if the need requires lightly processed through SSL EQs and other good sounding outboards.

And he's a producer of dedication, having sampled and recorded every single drum machine he's ever owned, used or borrowed, and many of those have ended up in this pack.

"I wanted a bank of drum samples that I myself could use in my productions so I wouldn't have to break out my old machines every time I wanted one of them in my productions" Espen however realised that other people would be encountering the same issue as he was or were not as fortunate as himself to have access to such a variety of great machines so this commercial pack was born.

Such is the breadth of his content it's inevitable we'll see a Volume 2 from the Kraft Studios too.
