McDSP FilterBank was the company's first product in 1998 and became one of the classic Pro Tools EQs. It's a flexible equaliser for engineers who want analogue-style curves with more control than most hardware ever offered.
Three plug-ins
- E606: high and low pass filters, high and low shelves and two parametric bands
- F202: steep high and low pass filters with resonant Q control
- P606: parametric EQ with variable Q modes
Peak-Slope-Dip shelving
FilterBank's best-known feature is its shelving EQ. Instead of a plain shelf, you can add a resonant peak and a dip around the corner frequency, which is how many vintage EQs actually behave. It's what lets FilterBank imitate the bump-and-dip low end of classic hardware.
The sound
Smooth, slightly coloured and very musical. FilterBank is still a go-to for snare and kick EQ, and the resonant filters in the F202 are handy for sound design. Its interface is old-school compared with modern visual EQs, but the sound is why it's lasted.
Native or HD?
Native runs on your computer in AAX Native, AU and VST3, which is all most studios need. If you mix on Pro Tools HDX or an Avid VENUE S6L, FilterBank HD adds AAX DSP support.
