Serato - Studio

Serato Studio is a beat-making DAW for hip-hop and sample-based producers, and for DJs who want to make their own edits. It's built around sampling: chop a record across pads, split it into stems and everything stays locked to the project key and tempo.

Studio strips out a lot of the setup that slows down a traditional DAW. There are dedicated Sample, Drum and Instrument decks, Scenes for building sections, and a Song view for arranging them. If you already DJ on Serato, the library, waveforms and cue workflow will feel familiar straight away.

Sampling and stems

Drop in a track and Find Samples picks out the best sections for your pads. Stems pull out the acapella, melody, bassline and drums, and each can now have its own level. Pitch 'n Time handles the key shifting and time stretching, so a chop pushed well off its original tempo still sounds clean rather than grainy.

Drums and instruments

The drum sequencer can generate a starting pattern in your chosen genre, then you adjust swing, velocity and grid to taste. There are over 190 instruments covering bass, keys, synths, pads, guitars and orchestral sounds, and you can load your own VST, VST3 and AU plugins too.

Who it's for

Beatmakers who think in samples and loops, and DJs making edits and remixes for their sets. It's quick, which is the point, but it isn't trying to compete with a full mixing and recording DAW. Serato Studio is also included in Serato DJ Suite, so Suite owners already have it.
