Wave Alchemy - Drift

Drift is Wave Alchemy's vintage drum library: 13,805 dusty, tape-coloured drum and percussion samples for lo-fi, hip hop, soul and alternative R&B, as a Triaz expansion and as standard WAV files. You don't need to own Triaz: it loads in the free Triaz Player.

How it was made

The source is more than 50 vintage kits and hundreds of percussion instruments, recorded across seven studios through mics like the Neumann U47 and RCA 44. Then it was dirtied up properly: run through Studer and Ampex tape machines, cassette decks, an SP-1200 and an MPC60, and over 1,000 samples were cut to vinyl and sampled back for genuine crackle. That's the difference between a lo-fi pack and a clean pack with a vinyl noise layer on top.

What's in it

Kicks, snares, toms, hats, cymbals, claps, rimshots, hand drums and a good pile of oddities: toy instruments, wood blocks, melodic stabs and vocal chops. In Triaz or Triaz Player you get 315 presets and patterns, with the layering, sequencing and randomising tools to build kits from it.

The sounds lean warm and soft rather than hard-hitting, so they're made for boom bap, lo-fi beats and soul, not peak-time club tracks.
