Miniverse is Cherry Audio's emulation of the Minimoog Model D, the 1971 monosynth that defined the word synthesizer, for fat basslines, singing leads and funk, electro, prog and anything else that needs a classic Moog voice.

The approach

Cherry Audio and Mark Barton (MRB) went for authenticity over extra features. Every curve and response of the original was measured and modelled, and the interface recreates the maple cabinet and knobs. You won't find extra LFOs or an effects section, by design. The one big addition is polyphony: switch from one voice to two, four, eight or sixteen, and the Model D sound becomes a poly. MPE and adjustable pitch bend range are also in there.

The sound

Big, round and very Moog. Basses have deep low end and plenty of punch, and leads sing as the ladder filter opens up. Going polyphonic turns it into a warm, chunky pad and brass machine that the original could never be. If you want onboard effects and modulation matrices, this isn't the one, but as a straight Model D it's one of the best.
