Trident Mk III is Cherry Audio's virtual synth based on the Trident Mk I and Mk II of 1981 and 1982, a multitimbral analogue keyboard with separate synth, brass and string sections, for big layered 80s pads, brass stabs and string ensembles.
The architecture
The original combined three instruments in one: a polyphonic synth plus paraphonic brass and string sections, each with its own mixer. Cherry Audio has rebuilt all three with up to 16 voices each. The synth section has two VCOs and a filter based on the SSM2044 with low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and notch modes. Brass and strings get their own filters, vibrato and, for strings, a bowing control. Sections can be split or layered with crossfades.
The sound
Lush and very 80s. Strings shimmer, brass punches through and the synth section adds bite on top. A new Motion panel brings a 16x2 polyphonic step sequencer and two arpeggiators with swing, chance and feel, and four effects chains draw on 17 effects including tape echo, BBD flanger and Lushverb. Over 370 presets.
