Acon Digital - DeBleed:Drums

DeBleed:Drums is Acon Digital's AI plugin for removing mic spill from close-miked drum recordings in real time, on Mac and Windows. It's for mix engineers fighting cymbals in the snare mic and kick in the toms.

Why not a gate?

A gate opens and shuts on level. Set it tight enough to kill the hi-hat in the snare mic and you lose the ghost notes. Set it loose and the hat comes back every time the snare rings. DeBleed:Drums uses a model trained on real drum recordings to tell the drum the mic is meant for apart from everything else, and removes the spill while leaving the wanted drum's resonance and quiet hits alone.

In use

It runs as an insert in real time, so you hear the result as you mix rather than waiting for an offline render. A sensitivity control sets how hard it works, and a trigger threshold lets it ignore hits below a level, for even cleaner results on tom tracks. Every parameter can be automated.

Where it fits

Live recordings and home-studio kits in less-than-ideal rooms will benefit most. On a well-recorded kit you may want only a little, as some bleed is part of a natural drum sound.
