Acon Digital - DeFilter

DeFilter is Acon Digital's automatic corrective EQ plugin for Mac and Windows. It measures a recording's tonal balance and builds a correction filter that evens it out, for dialogue, field recordings and music tracks with resonances you can't easily find by ear.

What it does

DeFilter compares the spectrum of the incoming audio with a target, either a built-in music or speech profile or a reference you capture from another recording, and calculates the filter needed to get there. It's good at the problems a manual EQ makes hard work: the comb filtering of a mic too close to a table, the boxy ring of an untreated room, or a lav and a boom that just won't sit together.

Matching takes

Capture the tone of one clip as a reference and DeFilter will pull another towards it, which is a quick way to match ADR or pickups to production sound, or two mics on the same source. A frequency emphasis curve sets how hard it works in each range, so you can let it fix the low mids and leave the top alone.

Where it fits

It's a repair tool first. On music it's useful for taming a resonant acoustic guitar or upright bass, but don't expect it to replace a creative EQ. The correction filter length runs from 1 to 20ms, and shorter settings keep the processing subtle.
