Audiomodern - Freezr

Freezr is Audiomodern's freeze sequencer effect plugin for Mac and Windows: it captures slices of incoming audio and sequences them into stutters, holds and glitches, for producers who want rhythmic edits on the fly without cutting audio by hand.

Freeze, sequence, remix

Freezr grabs a short segment of whatever is passing through and holds or repeats it according to a step sequence. There are two independent sequencers, a stereo or mono mode, and a filter module to shape the frozen sound. A complexity slider sets how busy the generated patterns get, Remix mode creates a fresh set of variations at once, and Infinity mode keeps producing new ones as the track plays. Each preset stores its remixes, so a good find comes back with the preset.

How it sounds in a track

On a drum bus it does the classic beat-repeat trick: fills, half-bar stutters and tape-stop-style holds that come and go every few bars. On vocals and pads it gets more interesting, freezing a syllable or chord into a short drone and then letting it go, which works well as transitions. Low complexity gives tasteful edits; high complexity is pure glitch, and gets tiring if you leave it running. Automate the mix or trigger it from a MIDI keyboard and it becomes a performance tool rather than a constant effect.

Who it's for

Electronic producers who like stutter edits and live tweaking, and anyone who wants movement in a static loop. It's a focused effect with a short feature list, and the price reflects that. If you already have a beat-repeat device you use often, the extra here is mostly the randomisation and the remix storage.
