Audiomodern - Loopmix

Loopmix is Audiomodern's multi-loop remixer plugin for Mac and Windows: load up to six loops and it rearranges, reverses and repitches them into new stems and kits, for producers who work from loops and want fresh variations without hours of chopping.

Six loops in, plenty of rearrangements out

Each of the six sequencer tracks takes a loop, either from the 1.6 GB factory library or from your own folders. Loopmix then generates new versions using its sequencer, rearrange, reverse, density, volume and pitch settings. A complexity control sets how far it strays from the source, and you can anchor a track so the randomiser leaves it alone, which is the setting we reached for most. Temporary randomisation lets you audition a mangled version and snap back to where you were.

How it sounds in a track

Feed it a drum break, a bass loop and a pad, hit Generate, and it offers up to 24 remixes at once. Most are usable and a few are gloriously wrong. On breaks it behaves like a quick, slightly unhinged chop session; on melodic loops the pitch and reverse options push things into glitchy, IDM-leaning territory fast, so keep complexity low if you want something that still resembles the original. Infinity mode keeps producing new variations as it plays, and Disintegration mode breaks the pattern apart, which is handy for builds and breakdowns.

Keyboard, export and packs

The smart keyboard spreads up to two octaves of remixes and stems across the keys, so you can trigger variations live or save one to a key the moment you hear something good. When you're done, drag the pattern or individual stems out as audio or MIDI. The pack manager bundles your samples, patterns and remixes with your own artwork and tags for moving to another machine or sharing with a collaborator.

Who it's for

Beatmakers and sample-based producers with a folder of loops they've stopped hearing. It isn't a precise slicer, and you'll audition a lot of variations to find the keepers. That's rather the point, but worth knowing before you buy.
