Audiomodern - Soundbox Opacity

Opacity is an Audiomodern Soundbox library of cinematic guitar performances for Mac and Windows, made with Justin Hodges and Terre Grande, for composers who want atmospheric six-string parts without recording them. It loads into Soundbox, Audiomodern's free MPE sampler, and needs Soundbox 1.1.0 or later.

Opacity started life as a Kontakt library and has been rebuilt for Soundbox, Audiomodern's own free engine. That gives you up to four layers per preset with their own effects, four modulation engines and a vector pad for blending layers. Buying Opacity also unlocks Soundbox's mapping and sample editors.

How it works

There are 14 scoring kits. Each kit has four categories (chords, phrases, sequences and textures) with 12 performances in each, all key-labelled and synced to your host tempo. That's the clever bit: take a chord part from one kit, lay a sequence over it and a texture underneath, and the parts agree on key and timing, so you get a usable underscore bed in minutes.

How it sounds

Played guitar with a cinematic, mostly ambient slant: swells, rhythmic sequences, held chords and evolving textures. It sits well under dialogue or as the main colour in a slow documentary cue.

Who it's for

Film, TV, game and documentary composers, and ambient producers who want real guitar in a cue without picking one up. It's performance-based, so you arrange recorded parts rather than play a guitar note by note.
