Audiomodern - Soundbox Opacity 2

Opacity 2 is the second Audiomodern Soundbox library of cinematic guitars for Mac and Windows, again made with Justin Hodges and Terre Grande, for composers who want more atmospheric six-string parts ready to arrange. It plays inside Soundbox, Audiomodern's free MPE sampler.

Like the first volume, Opacity 2 began as a Kontakt library and has been rebuilt for Soundbox. The engine is free and gives each preset up to four layers with separate effects, four modulation engines and a vector pad for blending between them. Buying Opacity 2 also unlocks Soundbox's mapping and sample editors, and the library can be imported into Soundbox on desktop or iPad.

How it works

Opacity 2 is larger than the original: 20 scoring kits against 14, made up of 14 playable patches and six alternative versions. Each kit splits into chords, phrases, sequences and textures, with 12 performances per category, all key-labelled and synced to host tempo. Mix a sequence from one kit with chords and a texture from two others and they line up, which is the whole point.

How it sounds

Expressive, played guitar with a cinematic slant, from intimate picked phrases to washed-out textures. It's the sort of part that carries a slow, reflective scene on its own, or sits quietly under a piano and strings without fighting them.

Who it's for

Composers for film, TV, games and trailers, plus ambient producers. If you own Opacity, this is more of the same approach with new material, not a different instrument.
