Audiomodern - Soundbox Voxmotive

Voxmotive is an Audiomodern Soundbox library of female vocal phrases and vocal effects for Mac and Windows, for composers and producers who need wordless, emotive voices in film, ambient and electronic work. It loads into Soundbox, Audiomodern's free MPE sampler, which you download from Audiomodern.

Soundbox stacks up to four sample layers per preset, each with its own effects and arpeggiator, and adds four modulation engines plus a vector pad for morphing between the layers. It runs as VST3, AU, AAX or standalone on desktop, and Audiomodern also makes it for iPad. Buying a paid library like this one unlocks Soundbox's mapping and sample editors, so you can build instruments from your own recordings too.

How it sounds

There are two sides to it. The soprano phrases are airy and ethereal, the kind of line that floats over a string pad in a trailer cue. Phrases from other vocalists bring in world music colour. Then there's the vocal FX section: whispers, breaths, spoken words and textures, which is where the tension material lives. Put a breath or a whisper under a low drone and a scene turns uneasy very quickly.

Who it's for

Media composers, ambient producers and anyone making cinematic electronic music who wants a human voice without booking a session singer. It's phrase-based, so you're arranging recorded performances rather than writing a vocal melody note by note. If you need a sung English topline, this isn't the tool.
