Audiomodern - Soundbox Wired

Wired is an Audiomodern Soundbox library of lo-fi, bit-reduced synths and textures for Mac and Windows, sampled from vintage and modular analogue synthesisers, for producers making dream pop, ambient and anything that wants a hazy, worn edge. It loads into Soundbox, Audiomodern's free MPE sampler.

Runs in Soundbox

Soundbox is the free engine; Wired is 40 presets and the samples behind them. Every preset can stack up to four layers, each with its own effects and arpeggiator, and the vector pad morphs between layers, which suits sounds that are meant to drift. Buying Wired unlocks Soundbox's mapping and sample editors too, and the library also runs in Soundbox on iPad.

How it sounds

Warm and murky on purpose. The source is analogue synths, but the character comes from bit reduction and a tape-tinged softness, so pads breathe and shift instead of sitting still, and the melodic patches sound slightly worn. Drop a Wired pad under a clean vocal and the track picks up a bedroom dream pop haze straight away. As synth geeks we'd note that these are samples of analogue gear, not a synth, so you're shaping recordings with Soundbox's filters and modulation rather than programming oscillators.

Who it's for

Dream pop, lo-fi, ambient and indie electronic producers who want textured pads and keys that already sound lived-in. If you want pristine, hi-fi analogue sounds, look elsewhere.
