Martinic Prodigy is a modelled recreation of Moog's 1979 Prodigy monosynth, aimed at producers who want fat analogue bass and leads with a sequencer built in. It adds polyphony, unison and a 16-step analogue-style sequencer to a synth that originally had none of them.

The Prodigy was Moog's budget monosynth: two oscillators, a ladder filter and not much else. That simplicity is exactly why it sounds the way it does, round and punchy at the bottom with a filter that bites when you push the emphasis. Martinic have kept the original panel intact and tucked the extras behind it. For techno and acid-tinged basslines it's just the ticket.

The original voice

Two VCOs with three footages and hard sync from oscillator 1 to 2, into a 24 dB/oct low-pass ladder filter with emphasis and keyboard tracking. Martinic have added a fourth oscillator waveform, adjustable pulse width, a sub oscillator and a pink/white noise source, plus filter drive and an emphasis boost for when you want it to scream.

Sequencer

The built-in 16-step sequencer runs in eight- or sixteen-step modes, with per-step level and trigger, level glide and tempo sync. Steps can drive oscillator pitch, filter, pulse width, mix, volume or pan, and pitch can be quantised. There's a parallel or serial chain mode, and it runs in loop, one-shot or single-step mode.

Poly, unison and reverb

There's an 8-voice polyphonic mode and a 6-voice unison mode with detune and stereo spread, which turns a mono bass synth into something that'll do wide supersaw-style leads. A vintage spring reverb modelled on Moog's 905 sits at the end of the chain.
