The McDSP AE600 Active EQ is a six-band dynamic equaliser with a choice of EQ shapes on every band, from clean parametric to Baxandall and vintage-style shelves. It's for engineers who want one EQ that can do static tone shaping and problem solving at the same time.

Six bands, six shapes

Every fixed and active band has its own gain, frequency, Q and mode. Modes include parametric, proportional Q parametric, 5x Q parametric, Baxandall shelving, vintage-style EQ and an X-style shelf. Bands overlap completely and can be triggered by the input or a side chain. Adjust them on the response plot or from the text readouts.

Active EQ that you can dial in quickly

Threshold, attack, release and McDSP's ratio control decide how each active band responds. Peak readouts for each band's key signal sit under the dynamics plots, so setting a threshold is a matter of reading a number rather than guessing.

The sound

Mostly transparent, with a little vintage colour available when you pick those modes. It's excellent for vocals and mix buses, where you can add a broad Baxandall lift and a narrow dynamic cut in the same instance. For simpler jobs the AE400 is lighter and cheaper.

Native or HD?

Native runs on your computer in AAX Native, AU and VST3, which is all most studios need. If you mix on Pro Tools HDX or an Avid VENUE S6L, AE600 Active EQ HD adds AAX DSP support.
