McDSP - Channel G Native

McDSP Channel G is a console-style channel strip with full dynamics, a five-band EQ and multi-mode filters, modelled on the kind of large-format desk you'd find in a big studio. It's for engineers who want a fast, familiar channel strip on every track.

Three plug-ins

• Channel G Dynamics: expander/gate, compressor/limiter and two sets of filters
• Channel G Equalizer: five-band console EQ with two more sets of filters
• Channel G Console: dynamics and EQ together in one strip

How it works

The five-band EQ has shelving and parametric sections, and the multi-mode filters cover high pass, low pass and notch with slopes from 6 to 24 dB/oct. The compressor/limiter can sit before or after the EQ, as on a real console channel.

The sound

Clean and punchy, in the classic big-console style. It's a workhorse rather than a colour box: tight gating on drums, firm compression on vocals and an EQ that's broad enough to be quick but precise enough for surgery. If you want the same idea in a lighter strip, Channel G Compact is the smaller version.

Native or HD?

Native runs on your computer in AAX Native, AU and VST3, which is all most studios need. If you mix on Pro Tools HDX or an Avid VENUE S6L, Channel G HD adds AAX DSP support.
