Wave Arts - MR Gate 6

MR Gate 6 is an expander/gate plugin for Mac and Windows, for pulling down background noise in the quiet parts of a recording. It's a thorough, well-behaved gate with clear visual feedback.

A proper gate

You get threshold, ratio, attack and release, plus adjustable lookahead so the gate opens before the sound arrives rather than clipping the start of a word or note. Variable ratio means you can gently expand rather than hard-gating, which sounds much more natural on dialogue and room mics.

See it working

A scrolling time display shows the input level against the gate's attenuation, which makes setting it up quick. The monitor mode lets you hear just what's being gated out. It's simple, but it does the job cleanly.
