Wave Arts - MultiDynamics 7

MultiDynamics 7 is a multiband dynamics processor for Mac and Windows with up to six bands, each set to compress or expand/gate. It's used for mastering, vocal and dialogue chains, drum processing and noise reduction.

Six independent bands

Each band can be a full compressor or an expander/gate, with adjustable knee and lookahead, clean or vintage compression, and solo, mute and bypass. Wave Arts' crossover network avoids the amplitude distortion where bands overlap, and you can choose 6, 18 or 30 dB/oct slopes. A Learn function sets band thresholds automatically, which gets you to a sensible starting point quickly.

What it's good at

Think of it as a dynamic EQ that reacts to the material. Tame a boomy low end only when it booms, de-ess a vocal, or control a harsh upper-mid on a full mix without dulling it the rest of the time. Set bands to expand instead and it becomes a frequency-selective noise gate. With lookahead off it runs at zero latency, so it can sit on a live or tracking chain too.

Visual feedback

The display shows input levels and the resulting dynamic EQ curve in real time, alongside a spectrum, so you can see what each band is doing. There's an output peak limiter and metering in peak, RMS or K-system. A long-standing workhorse that many engineers have kept in their templates for years.
