Cherry Audio - Dreamsynth

Dreamsynth is Cherry Audio's tribute to the hybrid digital and analogue synths of the mid-to-late 1980s, inspired by the Ensoniq ESQ-1, Kawai K series and Sequential Prophet VS, for glassy vector pads, digital bells and lush 80s textures with a warm filter underneath.

The architecture

Three dual-waveform oscillators give six oscillators per voice, each mixing virtual analogue and sampled PCM waves from a library of 430 looping, one-shot and single-cycle waveforms. Modulate the A/B wave mix and you get evolving, vector-style tones in the Prophet VS mould. There's also a separate, fully polyphonic string synth section that can be layered or split with the main synth, OB-style 12dB/oct multimode stereo filters, 20 mod sources with over 40 destinations, polyphonic aftertouch and MPE, and up to 16 voices.

The sound

Exactly that late-80s blend of crisp digital attack and analogue warmth. Pads shimmer and move, PCM transients give keys and plucks real definition, and the string section is great for layering under everything else. The reverb algorithm was good enough that Cherry Audio spun it off as Galactic Reverb. It's a more modern-feeling synth than many of Cherry's straight emulations, and with over 1,100 presets there's plenty to dig into.
