Cherry Audio - Filtomika

Filtomika is Cherry Audio's filter effect plugin based on the Soviet Polivoks synth's op-amp filter, the same one in Atomika, for adding grit and movement to drums, bass, guitars, synths and vocals.

How it works

Mark Barton (MRB) modelled the original filter and Cherry Audio added Starve, Filter Drive and Amp Drive controls, plus high-pass, notch and peak responses alongside low-pass and band-pass. A syncable LFO with six waveforms and an envelope follower handle the movement, so it can work as a dirty auto-wah on bass and guitar or a rhythmic filter on drum loops.

The sound

Nasty in a good way. Push the drive and starve controls and it grinds and snarls, which can bring a flat drum loop or synth line to life. It's not a clean, transparent filter, and not meant to be. As a cheap way to get Atomika's character on any track, it's bang for buck.
