Cherry Audio - Harmonia

Harmonia is an original Cherry Audio synth built around harmonic scanning, for evolving pads, shimmering textures and sequence-like motion in ambient, cinematic and electronic music.

How it works

Each of its two sample-based oscillators can play up to eight pitches at once, tuned either to the harmonic series or to semitones. A single slider scans through those harmonics, so one control sweeps a sound through its overtones or steps it through a melodic pattern. The source material is a library of 285 waveforms sampled from synths, acoustic instruments, voices and lo-fi sources, and you can import your own samples. From there it's a familiar layout: multimode filter, envelopes, four syncable LFOs and an eight-slot mod matrix.

The sound

Organic and constantly moving. Because most waveforms are stereo and harmonics stack up, even simple patches sound wide and alive, and the semitone mode turns held chords into rippling patterns. The 17 built-in effects run from tube distortion to Galactic reverb. It rewards experimentation more than precise programming, and the 350-plus presets are a good way in.
