Cherry Audio - Mercury-8

Mercury-8 is Cherry Audio's emulation of the Roland Jupiter-8, the flagship analogue polysynth of the early 80s, for lush pads, huge brass, sweeping leads and the classic sounds of synthpop, Italo and film scores.

The architecture

Two oscillators per voice with sync and cross-modulation, a high-pass filter and a resonant low-pass with 12 and 24dB slopes, two envelopes and a tempo-syncable LFO, all modelled closely. On top, Cherry Audio adds dual layers of 16 voices each for split or stacked sounds, a multi-voice mode for note-to-note variation, a four-slot mod matrix, arpeggiators and 16x4 polyphonic step sequencers. Drift and Condition controls set how new or worn the synth sounds.

The sound

Rich, smooth and expensive-sounding, with that silky Jupiter filter. It completes the Mercury trilogy alongside Mercury-4 and Mercury-6, and is the most refined of the three: less raw than the 6, lusher than the 4. SysEx import and export works with MIDI-retrofitted hardware. Over 600 presets, plus recreations of the 64 original factory patches.
