Cherry Audio - ODC 2800

ODC 2800 is Cherry Audio's emulation of the ARP Odyssey, covering all three versions of the original hardware, for screaming leads, aggressive basses and classic duophonic sounds in electro, funk, techno and prog.

The architecture

The Odyssey came in three versions, each with a different filter: the early two-pole 4023, the four-pole ladder-style 4035 and the later four-pole 4075. ODC 2800 models all three, with matching panel designs, and adds low-pass, band-pass and high-pass responses to each. Mark Barton (MRB) handled the DSP. Cherry Audio has added a third VCO, a second LFO, expanded FM routing, smart portamento, drift controls and poly modes up to 16 voices.

The sound

Thinner and edgier than a Minimoog, with that famous ring mod and sync bite. The three filter types really do sound different: the early two-pole version is bright and buzzy, the later ones fatter. Velocity and polyphonic aftertouch, an arpeggiator with swing and chance, and a redesigned effects panel round it off. Over 330 presets.
