PS-3300 is Cherry Audio's emulation of Korg's 1977 PS-3300, one of the rarest polysynths ever made, for huge stacked pads, vocal resonator sweeps and experimental patching in ambient, film and electronic music.

The background

Only around 50 PS-3300s were built. It was a semi-modular monster with three complete synth panels, each with its own oscillators, filters, resonators and envelopes for every note, fed from a fully polyphonic keyboard. It's often called the holy grail of analogue polysynths.

The sound

Massive and moving. Stacking the three panels gives thick, rich tones, and the three-peak resonators produce vowel-like and phasing sweeps you won't get from a normal filter. The virtual patch cables open it up for proper sound design, and per-note tuning with alternative temperaments is a nice touch for experimental work. Cherry adds up to 24 voices, effects including chorus, echo and Galactic reverb, and over 360 presets, including patches from the original manual. Deep, but very rewarding.
