SH-MAX is Cherry Audio's synth combining three Roland SH-series synths of the 1970s, the SH-5, SH-7 and SH-3A, for bold basses, cutting leads and plenty of modulation in electronic, techno and synthpop production.
The architecture
The core is the SH-5: two oscillators, two LFOs, ring mod, sample and hold, and its distinctive pair of parallel filters, a multimode filter and a separate band-pass. From the SH-7 come autobend, duophony, filter FM and syncable VCOs with extra waveforms, and from the SH-3A an additive-style oscillator. Sounds can be routed through either filter, both, or straight to the VCA.
The sound
Assertive and big, with the two filters giving it more tonal range than most monosynths. Touch effects inspired by the SH-2000 assign aftertouch to 47 destinations, and a four-channel step sequencer inspired by Roland's Model 104 can send MIDI out to your DAW. Drift controls add analogue wobble, and four effects chains share Cherry's 20 effects. Over 300 presets.
