The LX480 Dual-Engine Reverb V4 is Relab's flagship recreation of the Lexicon 480L, the mid-80s digital reverb heard on more hit records and film mixes than almost any other. It's for mix engineers and producers who want that classic deep, glossy 480 sound, and the 480's dual-engine routing to go with it.
The original, sample for sample
Relab modelled the LX480 from a meticulously maintained "golden unit" that came out of the Hit Factory in New York, and aims for sample-accurate behaviour rather than an impression of it. The halls, plates, rooms and ambiences carry that smooth, slightly grainy 480 density, where tails stay full and wide without smearing the source.
Two engines
This is the version to have if you want the full machine. Two independent engines run at once in four configurations, so you can stack a short ambience under a long hall, or put a plate and a delay in series, all inside one instance. No other plug-in version of the 480 offers that routing.
Beyond the hardware
Relab added plenty the original never had: Random Hall HD with a 32-bit float mode for a cleaner, modern hall, a full chorus engine for those lush late-70s and early-80s digital tails, Twin Delays with cross-feedback for doubling and ping-pong echoes, a Panorama algorithm and width control for stereo work, continuous controls, flexible filters, enhanced early-reflection delays and a resizable display.
The sound
If you know the 480 on vocals, snares and string beds, this is that sound, and it sits back in a mix in a way many modern reverbs don't. It's not a creative shimmer or freeze reverb, and the extra depth makes it heavier going than LX480 Essentials, which gives you four of the classic algorithms with a simpler panel. Hundreds of presets plus over 200 more in EDM and 80s synthwave packs give a fast start.
